NVIDIA showed a map headed AI Made in AU at a Melbourne ecosystem day on 10 September that names 75 organisations, against the eight partners in its press release.
The eight layers are government and education, applications, models, AI infrastructure, data centres, energy, subsea and cloud links, and finance.
Thirteen investors appear by name, among them QIC, Centuria, Stonepeak, Blackstone, BlackRock, Goldman Sachs and Macquarie Group.
Energy is the second biggest layer at 16 names, and six of those are network businesses, planners or industry bodies.
Energy and finance take up as much of the map as the computing layers do, which is the clearest thing it says about the Australian build.
NVIDIA held an AI Infrastructure Ecosystem Day in Melbourne on 10 September under the title "AI Factories: Australia's New National Purpose". That morning it published its statement on up to 2GW of Australian capacity by 2027, naming eight infrastructure partners plus Heidi and Atlassian as users of its Nemotron models. Behind the stage stood a map headed AI Made in AU, sorting Australia's AI buildout into eight layers.
The map names 75 organisations, among them 13 investors and 16 energy companies. The release covered AI infrastructure and applications. The map adds four more layers: finance, energy, government and education. Those are where an AI factory, a data centre built to run large clusters of chips, gets its money and its power.
Project Ohm founder Matthew Meszaros, whose company sits in the energy layer, put the room at around 80 people. The map, he wrote afterwards, sets out "the organisations contributing across applications, models, AI infrastructure, data centres, energy and connectivity". NVIDIA has not published it.
Eight layers, from government to finance
Every organisation on the map sits under one heading, and no lines are drawn between them.

The two top layers hold software Australians already use. Applications carries the clinical note-taking company Heidi, Atlassian, Natural Velocity and xAmplify, and models carries Canva and harrison.ai, which reads medical scans. Three companies hold the connectivity layer: SUBCO, Vocus and Megaport, which also sells GPU capacity through its Latitude.sh arm.
AI infrastructure is the longest layer, at 19. Four of them rent out GPU computing: Firmus, Sharon AI, IREN and ResetData, the neocloud providers in Australia NVIDIA named in its release. Five sell or install the hardware: Dell Technologies, Supermicro, Dicker Data, XENON and World Wide Technology. Vault Cloud sells sovereign cloud to government, Baltimore Aircoil makes the cooling towers, and Benmax fabricates plant rooms and mechanical piping at Queanbeyan in southern New South Wales.
Eleven businesses fill the data centre layer, and six of them run data centres in Australia today: NEXTDC, AirTrunk, CDC, Macquarie Data Centres, DigiCo and DCI, all of them in the directory of Australian data centres.
Beside them sit WinDC, which puts modular units at generation sites, GreenSquareDC, building at Spotswood in Melbourne, Datapod, which makes containerised units in Canberra, the builder Kapitol Group and the listed property group Stockland. Between them the two layers hold the dense, liquid-cooled racks that make an AI data centre different from a conventional one.
The map names 13 investors, from QIC to Goldman Sachs
Blackstone, Macquarie Group, Centuria and Morrison each already stand behind an Australian AI factory or data centre that appears elsewhere on the same map. A Blackstone-led consortium with Canada Pension Plan Investment Board holds AirTrunk, and Blackstone took an equity stake in Firmus. Macquarie Bank wrote the A$165 million bridge facility behind ResetData's GPUs and colocation. ResetData's AI factory runs inside a Centuria tower in Melbourne's Docklands. Morrison manages Infratil, CDC's largest shareholder.
The Macquarie in the finance layer is Macquarie Group. Macquarie Data Centres, two layers up, belongs to Macquarie Technology Group, a separate company.
Sixteen energy names include BHP, Fortescue and VicGrid
EnergyAustralia and Alinta Energy are on the map as retailers and generators, with the network owners AusNet and ElectraNet, their industry body Energy Networks Australia, the Victorian transmission planner VicGrid, the State Electricity Commission, the northern Australian developer Energy North, and two industry groups in the Clean Energy Council and the Clean Energy Investor Group.
Six of the 16 are networks, planners or industry bodies, which puts grid connection inside the buildout. Neara, whose software finds spare capacity on power lines already built, sits with them.
Meszaros describes Project Ohm as software that schedules computing against electricity prices, renewable availability and network conditions. The retailer Flipped Energy sits beside it. BHP and Fortescue are the two mining companies on the layer, and Type One Energy is developing fusion power.
Victoria puts its data centre opportunity above A$25 billion
Victoria's Sustainable Data Centre Action Plan, published in February 2026, covers land, grid, water, coordination and workforce, and the state values the opportunity at more than A$25 billion. The state also appointed an AI minister.
Invest Victoria, the state's investment attraction arm, has a project two layers down on the same map. Its November 2025 release describes connecting SUBCO to VicTrack for the overland stretch of the SMAP cable and establishing what it calls Victoria's first cable landing station, at Torquay.
Five of the seven government and education entries are Victorian. The other two are the Australian Government Department of Industry, Science and Resources and the Parliament of New South Wales, the only legislature on the map. New South Wales has a data centre inquiry before that parliament, and the state published its NSW data centre guidelines on 17 August.
Energy and finance are as big as the computing layers
NVIDIA has drawn the electricity and the money at the same weight as the chips. It sells the platform, the chips and the networking. Its partners find the power and pay for the buildings.
The map is NVIDIA's account of what Australia brings to the deal. A customer weighing a 2GW build sees a supply chain already in the country. A bank sees who else is backing it.
