At a glance

  • NEXTDC entered a trading halt before the market opened on 19 October 2026, pending an update on a delay to the supply of power at NEXTDC M3, its Melbourne data centre.

  • In its request to the ASX, NEXTDC said it is assessing the impact of the delay, including on the FY27 financial guidance it gave on 27 August 2026. The board had not yet met to consider it.

  • M3 in West Footscray is planned at 225MW. At 30 June 2026, 60MW was built and 165MW was in progress, out of 236MW NEXTDC had in progress across Victoria.

  • The halt ends when NEXTDC makes its announcement or at the open of trading on Wednesday 21 October 2026, whichever comes first.

ASX-listed data centre operator NEXTDC asked the ASX for a trading halt on 19 October 2026, and the exchange published it at 9:33am AEDT. NEXTDC shares last traded at A$9.18. The request names one site and one issue: power supply at M3 Melbourne, NEXTDC's West Footscray campus. This piece sets out what NEXTDC told the market, what M3 is, and what the announcement expected by Wednesday 21 October 2026 will need to answer.

NEXTDC told the ASX it needs to give the market "a material update" on the impact of a delay to the supply of power at M3, and that the assessment covers its FY27 financial guidance.

NEXTDC is assessing the delay against FY27 guidance

The request, signed by company secretary Michael Helmer, says NEXTDC "needs to provide a material update to the market on the impact of a delay to the supply of power at its M3 Melbourne data centre" and is seeking the halt "while it assesses that impact (including on FY27 financial guidance that has been provided to ASX)". It also states that "the Board has not yet met to consider the M3 power delay and its implications".

That guidance came with the FY26 result on 27 August 2026. NEXTDC guided to net revenue of A$615 million to A$640 million and underlying EBITDA of A$385 million to A$410 million in FY27, both more than 50% above FY26, on capital expenditure of A$5.25 billion to A$5.75 billion. The results presentation has 197MW of contracted capacity starting to bill in FY27. It names M2 Melbourne, M3 Melbourne, S4 Sydney and KL1 Kuala Lumpur as the sites with accelerated expansion works, which NEXTDC described as on schedule in that presentation.

M3 Melbourne has 165MW in progress

M3 is planned at 225MW. At 30 June 2026, 60MW was built, 42MW of it delivered during FY26 with billing under way, and 165MW was in progress. NEXTDC's results describe M3 as a site "leased or expected to be leased to a single customer under a long-term agreement covering all, or substantially all, of the site", which is why it now sits on the balance sheet as investment property.

What to watch

The announcement. NEXTDC expects to make it by the open of trading on Wednesday 21 October 2026. It will show whether NEXTDC changes its FY27 net revenue, EBITDA or capital expenditure guidance, and which part of M3 the delay affects.

The annual general meeting. NEXTDC holds its AGM at 11am AEDT on Friday 20 November 2026 at its S3 Sydney data centre in Artarmon and online. It is the next scheduled shareholder meeting after the update.
